How do you fix this error?

I've recently been getting the following error after I approve new members to the forum.
SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.
The members get approved so I'm not really sure whether this error is doing anything. But perhaps people are not getting the verification email? I'm not sure. Any idea what is going on and how to fix it? I don't believe updating to Vanilla 2.2 will be a fix as pervious upgrade have not fixed it.
My system: Vanilla 2.1.13

That was it! Thanks.
I had changed my email password a few months ago and didn't realize that screwed things up.
Problem solved.
