Automatic Update/Refresh Discussions

What I am looking for is a way to have the recent discussion page automatically refresh every X seconds instead of having to click the 'Recent Discussions' in order to see any new comments.
I did do a search and saw that this feature had been removed in 2.1. I was wondering if that is indeed true, meaning it's not available for 2.2 either. Is there a way to add this feature either by a plugin or config setting? I have a dedicated server and not worried about load.

Yes, it was removed from core in 2.1.
So far, no one has felt the need to create a plugin to add that functionality.

Thanks @whu606 - Would be nice to have it as a feature or addon that can possibly be turned on or off.
For example:
The 'On' could be recommended for 'Cloud or Dedicated hosting'
The 'Off' could be recommended for 'Share hosting' or something like that..
