Which default format to choose for the Advanced Editor?

In my forum i enabled WYSIWYG, because i figure it would be better for users, personally I would have gone with markdown.
My questions essentially, is is there any reason to choose one over the other?
The fact that WYSIWYG exposes html, can that be a problem?
Any other hint are welcome, or any opinionated recommendations.

It depends on your Users... if there are normal People, then choose WYSIWYG... if the basis are Programmers or technophile people, then Markdown could be better...

There is no risk in using WYSIWYG, but I still recommend Markdown.

Thanks guys, I stayed with WYSIWYG for a while, cause it's "easier" i suppose.
I was just "forced" to comply.
Until the more savvy users wanted Markdown, then, i guess...
