Force Whispers

  • I'm also wondering, in my situation, if I even need this extension. Now that I'm understanding whispers a bit more, I'm thinking I might not. Simply because, if I set up a role so that it can't start a discussion, and I whisper them a discussion, they can only respond to that discussion, since no other discussions would be openly available to them (as they would all be whispers to different clients, too). If that's the case, what mark has set up with the base whisper extension might be enough for my needs, don't you think?
  • So you're saying that if you give a role neither of the extensions permissions it still allows them to start a normal discussion?

yes'm. effective, eh? : ) if you have it allowing them to start open discussions via the base permission that mark set up, i forsee it only starting conflicts if the new permissions basically said, "oh no you didn't." it would have to be set in conjunction.

//edit -> i think that instead of the route you are going, the permission should be whether or not the user can take part in open discussions or if it can only whisper. then, whether or not they can whisper to other users (that is when they can actually start conversations) or only to themselves. obviously, they should always have the ability to respond in whisper form in the middle of a private conversation that began as a whisper from someone else.
  • I'm sure that didnt happen when i tested it. I'm at my mates now and cant connect to my dev server but i'll take another look when i get back. I'm also pretty sure it's just a matter of hooking into some different delegates to stop users posting in open discussions. As for whether you need it I have no idea. I'm confused why my permissions are dodgy though.
