Vanilla 2.7 will be along shortly

LincLinc Admin

2.7 release branch has forked and we've started using it on cloud. I expect the open source official release will be along shortly. The marquee feature is a brand new text editor with a new interface designed from the ground up. It's available as an addon, so you can move to it when you're ready, regardless of when you upgrade core. I should also note that file uploads in it are currently restricted to images, so you may not be quite ready to switch if your site does a lot of file swapping via comments.

Full release notes will accompany the actual release.

It also introduces new requirements for building Vanilla from scratch (we have a Javascript build process now in core), so please beware if you like living dangerously and want to grab the branch directly. You don't need to worry about this if you get the official release when it comes out.

  • Whatever you do you guys never give serious thought to Adsense integration. That's why vanilla is not success it could have been.

You have failed to realise that your forum could easly serve as blog and it does this job perfectly. A blog with features of inbox messages and friends and other social elements.

Rather then focusing only on industry you should have also focussed on content creators.

But you never realised that blog publishers and community owners need ad money. To put adsense inside posts at custom positions is a must in age of mobile web and sidebars just do not work.
My ads earning tripled after moving to WordPress.

You do not need to work to make it as blog platform. It already has those capabilities.you just need to market it. And also provide features of putting ad codes like WordPress anywhere inside post.

You paltform is very neat and look awesome . Better than WordPress. Recent posts on homepage and sidebar for categories. Easily navigable.

I already moved . These suggestions are Just as a well-wisher in good faith. Good luck.

@Him: From my experience in digital advertising (at least for 12 years now)... AdSense is senseless for the usual small publisher. You need a million page impressions a day to create a relevant income source.

You may also have overlooked that there are several options to integrate Adsense into your Vanilla forum (?).

    • VanillaAPP | iOS & Android App for Vanilla - White label app for Vanilla Forums OS
    • VanillaSkins | Plugins, Themes, Graphics and Custom Development for Vanilla

  • The new editor is great. It gently forces users to write well structured posts and the embedding features are great as well.

The only thing I miss is support for Emoji Sets. Will this be added at some point or are they deprecated in favor of system emoji?

If that is the case, I would like to be able to write an extension (i.e. add your own blots and UI elements) for the editor, so something like this can be added.

  • We're trying to stick to system emoji and see how that goes. The world seems to have standardized on Unicode, and we're trying to follow that trend rather than fight it.

  • For beginners like me - how do I install the new update in cPanel?

  • @lokanath There is no beta yet.

@Linc Yes, with new communities, this would be the way to go for me too. But I'm talking about communities that have had custom smileys long before the term emoji became popular, communities that have integrated those smileys / symbols into their culture. They will hardly accept the change.

I respect the decision to omit them from the standard package. That's why my question concerns extensibility.

Just an FYI on Pockets... I used the link to github and grabbed the latest version there... seems to work fine with 2.6x.

@Bleistivt thanks. The languages are not working. I can see them - they are all activated in locales, but when i click them all i see is English.

  • @lokanath did you delete all files in /cache directory?

  • @pioc34 doing it now....

  • Lscache or cache in public_html?

@pioc34 ok i deleted the cache files Public_html/cache/locales - lscache was empty - all i see translated with Italian version is the dates on the categories....but nothing else

  • I think there may be a wider problem as I cannot see my statistics as well....

  • Tried the other languages as well - same,..just the dates in discussions...(before i mentioned categories = not correct)
