PHP 7.4 End Of Life ...... Plans for Vanilla?

With PHP 7.4 reaching end of life in 6 weeks time, and Vanilla not currently supporting PHP 8.0/8.1 , I was wondering if anybody had any news as to the future of Vanilla?

I am disheartened that after spending a fair bit of time planning a large forum migration over to Vanilla to find it doesn't support anything above PHP 7.4

I assume there is a plan to support PHP 8.0/8.1 but couldn't find any reference to it.

Does anybody have more info on this ?

I advice you to not use vanilla anymore. The open source version is basically dead now.

  • After some evaluation, Vanilla is still the platform that I want to work! It's just the PHP 8 issue , perhaps something will happen in the next month or so when 7.4 hits end-of-life? :D

    A few observations:

    • 8.0 was released nearly 2 years ago.
    • The last public build was more than 3 years ago.
    • A normal PHP upgrade period is 3-6 months after release.
    • The company hasn't uttered a word on compatibility plans (or anything else).
    • If it was simple, it stands to reason it would be done by now.
  • I guess if anything we'd go straight to 8.1 which is the newest?

Saw some comments over on GitHub which mentioned hopefully November? I'll remain hopeful 😊
