By the way, I just updated the html formatter, and besides fixing several bugs, I've also added the option to allow people to post videos. If enabled, the tags would be:
    <video type="google">docid</video>
    <video type="youtube">video id</video>
  • That is great Sir not. that will work for everyone. Is it out of security precaution that you ask for the doc id and not the whole url

Mostly, yes, but also for consistency.
  • Any idea when you will post the link to the extension?
Indeed. Has this actually been released yet?
  • SirNot, i tried the newly updated extension, and enabled the video thingies, as above but no joy :( nothing shows up in the post, but the post does totally mess up the comments box. The post makes the box massive at the bottom - pulling it all across the screen. http://www.love2escape.com/chat/discussion/109/new-zealand/#Item_30

Are you sure you posted it like <video type="youtube">PcWrB9B485s</video> ? Because a) there's a second param in there which wouldn't have been inserted if you used the correct tags, and b) it appears that the object and embed tags were stripped out, which only would've happened if the tags were there to begin with.
  • it works. It works! I was posting gobblygook long winded code before that. When I post your code above it now works. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are a star, SirNot. I thank you muchly! http://www.love2escape.com/chat/discussion/109/new-zealand/#Comment_1920
  • PS - I will have to make this a sticky and let my posters know what code they have to add around a youtube video before trying to post it eg <video type="youtube">PcWrB9B485s</video>
  • I already have the plugin made. I'm just prettying it up, plus changed it so it takes just the video id rather than the whole url. If whole url is allowed then people can post any flash video, even malacious ones.

PLus Sirnot extension is much better. A very good formatter with video capabilities. what can u ask for more

    One clarification
Do all google video id's begin with a minus sign
Do all youtube video ids have just alphabets and no other symbol
  • Hmmm... using SirNot's extension, it will juz display the "video id". What went wrong?
  • did u download the updated extension of Sir not Html formatter>
Plus u have to select post as html for it to work

MySchizoBuddy, thanks for the new code re fckeditor. Unfortunately after using that editor for a few hours the day it was released, i went back to the default vanilla editor. I just prefer not to use a lot of html code for postings - plus fckedirot meant i couldn't use my vanillaicons extension. SirNot's updated extension works best for me. Though unless he had told me the html code to enter, i would never have figured it out.

    yup, done that.
you could try to post at www.engineersvoice.com and you will see the problem. I have the modified better bb code installed as well, and that worked fine for me. However, I was thinking of just using one formatter (html formatter or betterbbcode) so my users won't get confused.
