So the 100GB is the standard plan? I am doing my upgrade now (I don't want to wait for the automated process). I will choose my (gs) plan in about 12 hours. Because I pay for the "better" (ss) plan, I had better not be trown in with the standard (gs) plan like everyone else.
DreamHost sucks, that's all I have to say. I've been paying $20/month for the past 8 years for AceHost (terrible), Exovian (terrible), DreamHost (better, but still terrible), and now (mt), so that price is pretty reasonable to me. I have to say, (mt) is very nice. I'm extremely impressed with their new control panel, even though I've only been hosted with them for about 3 hours, lol.
As far as I can tell, no limits on the amount of databases. And they just count towards your total webspace.
Haven't seen anywhere saying that some apps are forbidden either, but there's a list of stuff they tested with the grid system here: http://www.mediatemple.net/webhosting/gs/faq/grid_compatible_applications-faq.htm
I just ordered me an account and it was up and running in under ten minutes after ordering I think. I must say I'm impressed with it all, control panel looks great. Switching php 4/5 versions with just a click or two and adding multiple domains is easy too. The PostgreSQL admin/manager is giving errors atm though, but I'm sure they'll fix that soon.

"What applications are known to run on the Grid? The following applications have been installed on the Grid and tested for basic compatibility by (mt) Media Temple staff or customers. ... Vanilla 1.0.1 ..."
I got it last week and can't say I'm too pleased with them or gridserver yet.
Have been encountering a lot of little issues in the past days... bad FTP connections, bad migration, bad one-click install experience, SQl databases down, etc. I'm assuming this is all related to the 'newness' of it all, but performance-wise I see *no* improvement over my past SS (shared server) account, and it actually perfoms *slower* than another installation at 1and1.
I've just set up a Grid Server account for a client. Let's hope it works out ok... any more problems TomTester?
(Still hoping to try out this Django nonsense sometime...)
Actually, things have gotten a LOT better (though everything was down for 30 mins two days ago and then again yesterday morning): - I really like their support (knowledgable *and* they get to the phone, ticket handling however seems to depends on the support person) - the new control-panel is AWESOME (everything I've needed thusfar) - the new DNS is instantaenous, you can add domains, subdomains, external domains in a jiffy - you're not limited to one database but can have as many as your storage can hold (sites + databases can make up to 100GB total)
TomTester: From a quick Google search, they seem to be working on it, and may release it "in the near future", or maybe not, and that's all they're saying.
To their credit, it's not an easy task by any means, and would represent a significant investment in developer time.
They haven't come right out and said they won't, however, which gives me some hope. Django is such a pain to install on most inexpensive hosts; if they decide to support it out-of-box, that could be a huge draw to a bunch of desperate Django developers.
1&1, mt are slow...
Aren't they too slow? mt keeps safe_mode on for shared hosting solutions. It's horrible.
I feel for dedicated hosting DataPipe is the best. They have awesome support and their FreeBSD servers are very fast. My client runs 10 sites on a single box!
What do you guys think about lunarpages?!
1&1 slow? Eeeh, where do you get that info? (I have many sites there, no complaints at all) MT slow? I had no complaints before gridserver, though my vanilla test setup there isn't 'blazing' giving them a chance.
I'd love to use datapipe or rackspace, but $$$ are an issue.
It's an inspired approach to hosting but I'm also hearing a lot of, for the sake of fairness, teething issues.
I'm sticking with Dreamhost. The only problems I've had so far have been the power outages. Annoying but I feel better with a company that'll hold their hand up as quickly as Dreamhost did. Plus it's dirt cheap for what you get. I've had some pretty high bandwidth lately and there's been no complaint. I got through 20gb in one day the other week. That's a lot for a site which isn't that big. Admittedly, I was sharing a FLAC :P
@ guru4vedi: Are you should mt use safemode?
their faq and phpinfo() say they don't:

I'll let you know how that goes.

@Berg, ask them. These guys are very responsive.

I think most of the issues are start-up issues. If you have mission/money-critical stuff, perhaps you should wait a couple of weeks.
