Toivo u can do that as well. I saw it myself and even recommended to Serendipity weblog system to implement it. I had seen that feature on some guys blog, I don't remember The developers of the weblog said its very easy for them to make it. I guess u can go and get an update on it if they made it or not.
Here's what I would like to see added to Vanilla:
* Support for sub categories
* Ability to add multiple Roles to users
* Ability to whisper to multiple users and roles
* Ability to moderate new posts before they are displayed inside the forum
It already does multiple whispers.
Multiple roles is provided using a plugin http://lussumo.com/addons/?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=163
Subcategories will be nice (members here have already faked subcategories)
"It already does multiple whispers."
How's that done? Do I have to separate names with commas (,) ?
Note: The drop-down box only appears for the first name. If will not appear for names entered after the comma (,)
It would be nice to see native support to multiple Roles, sub categories and whisper to roles in the next version
Prototype is worth it if used enough and without the linebreaks or spaces its only 20kb
here: http://levade.homeip.net/addicted/prototype.js\
the full library is only 22kb
Here is all it can do:

Also http://script.aculo.us/ seems to be the smoothest framework, it works on Opera too!
I really would like to have subcategories added to the core of Vanilla, it's something that I really liked with other forums, almost so much that I debated not going to Vanilla for good. Also it would be great if the whole discussion/category system was optional. I can live with how it is now, but it would make me extremely happy if I could turn off the discussions tab and just use the category tab. I guess i've been a user of invisionfree for too long lol.
Crazy, you can turn off the discussions tab with pagemanager. I've done so (though admittedly after adding "all discussions" to my the discussion filter plugin)
Note: pagemanager is a little weird with add-ins that install tabs. Make sure you re-sync tabs after installing such a new add-in (you may have to re-order / hide your tabs then too).

I also see a 'tiny' 46kB for ptoyotype... (guess mine is not compressed?)
