Trojans in Vanilla?

edited February 2010 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8
A user on my forum messaged me and told me that he has messages on his computer saying "there is a virus attached to the site", and it caused his computer to auto reboot. Any idea why he's getting this?

    I think this is unrelated to vanilla, unless you can prove otherwise in the code.
    This could be a virus on the users computer, or you have a virus on your hosting account or server and its being picked up by this users active scanner.

    If you use windows, switch to linux

    If you use linux, download via ftp the entire websites directory, better yet download everything on your hosting account and use a file scanner like clamwin to check for bugs.

  • @mksontag: Like @bobtheman said, it's not Vanilla.

    @mksontag:

    If you search for your site in Google and it says, "This site may harm your computer" (like so) then follow these instructions from Google.

    Mysterious reboots aren't necessarily a virus, they can also be caused by inconsistent power or a faulty power supply in the computer. Or poor graphics drivers/BSODs that flash by too quickly.

    If the user is running Windows, ask if they have antivirus, and if they don't, suggest they download Microsoft's free Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ or take a free online virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    If none of the above is helpful, what's your forum's URL?
