  • Excellent, well done Vanilla team. SOPA is plain wrong.

Thanks. And it seems to be working.

I've written a plugin that will replace your forum (temporarily) with an Anti-SOPA awareness message. Use it on January 18th to promote awareness of the Congressional vote on January 24th.

  • I'm going to use this
Even though I'm not from the US, a lot of my members are, and I'd hate for them not to be able to log in due to stupid legislation

Excellent. It will look like this:

The big image is actually a video. (this one http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa)

will this be visible to guests as well as members?
I just tested it and couldn't see it, I assume it will only show on jan 18th

  • TimTim Operations Vanilla Staff

It doesn't affect admins, so you can disable it more easily.

  • Yeah, I mean I activated it and didn't see it, even as a regular member

I've uploaded a new version. I was hooking into a Vanilla 2.1 event that doesn't exist in 2.0.18.

  • put a get time thingo in so you can leave it enabled, and it will switch itself on an off?

It will be up for 1 day. I'm not going to make it launch the space shuttle.

you should make it e-mail my congress man/woman

@hbf you should really email your congressman personally. This is too big of an issue to just send an automated email. Anyone that receives a bunch of the same form letter will most likely completely ignore all of them.

The entertainment industry already has the tools to put the screws to you without due process. They were able to lobby for this while the rest of the tech sector was completely asleep at the wheel. Try and do your part so that they don't put even further draconian measures into place.

Forums are ground zero for user-contributed content. If laws like SOPA and PIPA continue to be enacted, even in their reduced forms, then we can all kiss forums goodbye.

  • The house killed SOPA, just PIPA left now.

Is there anything I can use to do it automatically?
