@vrijvlinder and I are working on this plugin (from a V idea).
Our first effort is to make this fully working for manually and form uploaded files with 2.0.18 and 2.1. There are also some ideas for a future ProfileGallery plugin...
Anyone can contribute forking from https://github.com/lifeisfoo/PictureGallery and make a pull request.
This repository contains latest @vrijvlinder changes. Test and report every problem here or on github issues pages.

I would like to add that within my mods to this plugin , I got rid of the thumbnails and use css to control their size. This is good because if you use hover zoom or something like that , then you get the full size image. I personally don't like having to open a new window to view the full size image.
Also I discovered that by adding the pics ftp I can add more at one time. To a single gallery folder. all the images do not show at once just 3 or 4 at a time and every time you click the view more pics link it refreshes the page and gets the next images.
It would be nice to have more images per row. I will see how to work that out. Editing capabilities like it suggests it could do... have not found them

Update on the development . I was able to put the upload form on the gallery page and post the images right on the page!! purely accidental but I am lucky that way ...
I made only one form but can put a form for every gallery folder if you like to. I am now figuring out how to keep the form from showing unless logged in....

I simply made an album, called User Images and put the form out there instead of the dashboard. I am able to upload fine.And the images display .
I will push my changes to lifeisfoo on his github and also post it here if requested ...

New Development excited to say that I have succeeded in also adding a way to delete images and change the caption of images , now I need to figure out how to make the captions show up below the images but progress is being made, @hgtonight lol saw you were there !!

Had no idea I even could get it to work at all, I really don't know what I am doing and am just going with my logic and gut feelings...I am not sure how on earth I understand any of it, my brain just tells me that is what needs to be done. Been up until 4 every night trying to get this to work without any help.
It was worth it.
This will be a community gallery plugin . People can make albums and edit the content. Or delete the images.
