Adding custom Fileds to sign-up and profile

Hello,
I am brand new to Vanilla, today in fact 
What I would like to do is add custom fileds to the sign-up and profiles, I have searched the forum and the only thing I could find was Predefined Attributes which dont seem to work on Vanilla 2.
is there any other add-on that I am missing that could do the job.

This worked 50% it got the ability to add the extra info to the users profile, but What I really need is the questions to be on the Sign-up form, so I can filter people that are recognised by my group and filter out the rendom strangers
use the select role plugin , then a user can select a role and you can use that to filter. Or you can create a new role to give them.

The problem with that is there is over 6000 members within our group, ranging in age from 18 - 80 its a group for School leavers. so What I need is a simple When did you leave School, What House where you in, this is so we can find them in the database easily to confirm that they where indeed a member of the school and not a member of the public, this is important for our members security and the schools support
ok I see , you want to add extra fields in their profile and registration for the purposes of identification .
what you need is the profile extender plugin I think, but it only is available for the beta version of vanilla , however it may possibly be modified to work in the earlier version.
I am not an expert but will look into it.

would it be worth using the beta to run my site?
the software is still beta and is not recommended for production. Not worth risking issues over one plugin. I am looking into making it compatible with 2.0 will test it on my forum and report back.
It is not a very complex plugin, all it does is add extra input fields . For example ,
it allows a person to add extra fields to their profile.
Like Profession = teacher or School= MAS
So it is rather simple just need to see if it can be made to function with 2.0 , I will give it a shot and report.
If I fail I know someone who could also get this to work or make you a custom plugin for a fee.

ok I tested the addon with 2.0 and the custom fields works for the profile. It adds fields you choose in the dashboard that they fill out.
I think they are also supposed to be added to the registration form ... working on that part to see why it is not showing.

Ok well it seems that the custom field in the registration form does not show up in 2.1 either...so maybe you can just make due with this for now

The official Profile Extender plugin does let you create both registration and profile fields in 2.1. Try @vrijvlinder's fix first and see if it works out for you. If it doesn't work out, you can try out 2.1b1 on a development website and see if that works better for you.

I haven't used the new enhanced version from the master branch yet, but I have used 2.1a41 and registration fields show up.

I tested on 2.1b1 and 2.0 and the reg fields do not show up. I tried changing a few things to no avail. I thought it could be theme related but it does not show using default either.
I suspect it is using the wrong handler maybe?

I got the 2.1 to show the new fields by changing the handler but not on 2.1, ok thanks @Shadowdare will check that out thanks
