People just need to understand/accept the guidelines for using, modifying and re distributing Open Source products.

The fact that these are free to download does not mean one can claim ownership just like that. All of these works are copyrighted and licensed.

Please read the License which comes with Vanilla so you can understand more clearly .

The least that one is expected to do Is to give Credit to the one who created it from inception.
And must follow the guidelines of the global license.

You should include a copy of the License in all your works.

It is acceptable to use bits of code or the entire code from someone else if :

1.You got permission from the author to do so. (One exception possibly if the author is no longer available and on a case by case basis.)

2.The License states you can do so.

3.You Give credit Attribution to the source of the code or work.

    example:

Original code by Max, modified by Sue,later enhanced by Tom Dick and Harry

    or

Thanks to Max, Sue and Tom Dick and Harry for their contributions to my new add-on based on their code from plugin a and theme b and app c.

The point is to include where one got the code, idea, design if one did not come up with it entirely.

Some people may not want to be associated with one's work so they may give you permission to use the code but do not want Attribution. Which is why it is important to ask the author.

Some authors may no longer be around but you need to at least try to get their permission or that of an Admin or Mod. If anything it is common curtesy to do so.

    Hope this helps someone.

    how about

V.2.4 = Removed some controversial codes.

You have to know the effect you have on people. It is not good to mention a person who gave your feedback and suggesions on such a kind of changelog.

    Its called respect.

If someone mentioned me on changelog like this i will be angry.

In general, all addons that do not state a license means that the creator of the addon has copyright over all the code. If you are copying substantial amount of code directly, then you must ask for permission from the addon creator(s). In this case, Vanilla is licensed with GPLv2.

There is an answer to a question on the GPL website <link> that states that all plugins that don't state a license must be released under the same license that the software is released with. There are a list of compatible licenses developers can use in addons <link>.

All addon developers should clearly define terms of use by stating a license in their addons because GPLv2 licensed software do not require attribution, but if you are copying a substantial amount of code and most of it is obviously the same, then it is respectful to ask for permission and give credit for someone's efforts for the work in any case.

Add Pages to Vanilla with the Basic Pages app
