How to create a discussion forum for different groups with single installation

I want to do an installation where
- Separate group for each class of students
- Admin and some other with admin privileges are common to all the groups
Saw this post and think that, this is the one I am looking for.
What all addons will help to get things done like the above page or how could I achieve things like I said above?

Welcome to the community!
I believe the Groups functionality you linked to is only available on the hosted version.
You could create a role for each class of students. Maybe use the course name, e.g. "CSCI 321". Then create a separate category for each role and define the permissions such that each class role has access to only the class category.
