Removing html content when user not signed in
What is the best way to remove content when the user is not signed in. Specifically in my forum header, I have a include the {profile_link} and then a "|" symbol. I want that symbol to dissapear when the user is not signed in... I would normally do this using php, but I guess since the .tpl file is not a .php file, I'm unable to use php. At least, when I dropped some code in there it did not execute...

Considering you are not used to Smarty, you might find the community wiki on using Smarty with Vanilla helpful. The other tags section includes a specific example about including markup for signed in users only.
