Is it possible to have 'Confirm email' roles auto-deleted after a certain time?

I was wondering whether there was any way to have all 'Confirm email' roles that have not been confirmed after say a week just deleted automatically? It has started to be a problem all of a sudden, though only I suppose from the prospect of tidiness.

I use the registration method, and version 2.0.18.10.

thanks

    Anything is possible!

Not out of the box though.

Also no plugins that do this, AFAIK.

  • That's a pity. Seems like a good thing to build in.

  • Actually, now I think about it, if I'm using the registration approval method then is there really any advantage in using 'Confirm email' is the first place? If I didn't I'd just have a list of people to approve and the spammers would be obvious from their discovery text or answers and easier to delete there. Or is there something I'm not thinking of?

what are all the plugins are you using?

    maybe i can suggest something.

Also why are you using an insecure version of vanilla

it would be far better to upgrade to 2.1 or at least 2.0.18.11 otherwise you will potentially more problems than spam due to security breaches.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

    Plugins I'm using:

    • Button bar
    • In this discussion
    • Stop forum spam
  • That was a vertical list, I should have used commas...

  • I've only just noticed the 2.0.18.11 version. I didn't get an email about that. But I'm going to go to 2.1 very soon.

If it were me I would keep the approval setup, forget about confirm e-mail if you want.

I would upgrade to 2.1, since a few of these plugins require 2.1

the plugin below will make applicants answer a question of your choice, make it something a forum user might know, but difficult for an automated spambot.

    http://vanillaforums.org/addon/addregistrationquestion-plugin

the plugin below is an easy way to delete lots of spam applicants.

    http://vanillaforums.org/addon/cleanser-plugin

the plugin below stops many spam applicants and if you tune it you can keep adding to the patterns or ips

some people find them very successful. other have their own preferneces of plugins and biases.
try them , see if it works for you and report back after you have installed them.

  • Thanks Peregrine, appreciated. Yes, I'll upgrade to 2.1 now and see how it does without confirm email on the approval method, trying out plugins if the need develops. I try to have as few plugins as possible if I can help it.

the plugins mentioned don't have any performance degradation for your forum and all the ones I mentioned I wrote

    I recommend at the least.
