Allow users to create/view own thread but no one elses within a category?

Is this possible to do? I'm fairly new to using Vanilla and haven't gotten a good enough grasp on it to know.

Basically, I would like to create a category that is listed as normal, but threads/comments within it invisible to normal users. A user should still be able to post in there and view their own thread though. Moderators/Administrators should be able to see every thread in that category.

I wish to set categories like these up for reporting bugs, and ban appeals (because I am running a game). The information posted there would be wrong to share with anyone other than staff members.

Thanks for reading.

    Welcome to the community.

tbh, I'd look at the PM system.

You could ask users to start a PM with a named Admin, and then the Admin could invite in other mods etc. as needed.

You could even have a quick link to appeal the ban that auto fills the message (intialize it, basically).

Yes they do. OsTicket works pretty good on a good day until you start wanting some advanced features. OsTicket has a self hosted version just as these forums have.
The problem i ran in to was having people reply to the ticket email to add their response to the ticket. It is very hard to do unless you have control of your entire email server.
The other thing is that their email templates don't really look that professional, so you have to go and redesign a lot of them.
    Other than that, works fine.

  • Thanks for the replies everyone!
Looking into PM stuff. The trouble ticket system seems a good alternative too, will keep in mind.

    Cheers.

I now have fixed osTicket on my own server. If you would like to take a look, here is basically your default setup.
