You either have to write your own plugin (say it if you are interested, I would guide you. It is super easy!) or you can use a very comfortable plugin from @hgtonight, the Discussion Extender.
The plugin needs a tiny bit of work to be able to be used with Vanilla 2.6 but I already created a pull request on GitHub.
You can either use my fork or wait for hgtonight who normally is really fast responding to pull requests and use his version when it is updated.
The admin interface of the plugin would need some love, too, but it is usable the way it is and the field in the discussion doesn't need any rework
I asked you to write the link to be sure that you have taken the wrong version. I have said that the linked version doesn't work, so this is no surprise.
I also said, that I corrected that version. A working version can be found here
Delete the plugin from your plugin folder, download the version linked from above and make sure it gets unzipped to /plugins/DiscussionExtender. Afterwards delete /cache/addon.php

Are you sure that you have tested the corrected version? Please post the link to the version that you have tested. What exactly does "not work" mean?
