Forum Counters Not Updating
Rickeo
New
I've installed Vanilla on my shared hosting account.
Under the categories section, I have the table layout and the discussions and comments section on my forum are not updating they all show 0 discussions and comments which isn't true.
Additionally, on the homepage (discussions page) on the sidebar where it lists all my forums, the counter isn't updating on there either.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
TIA

3. Reload your forum.
Hey,
Thank you so much for this, how come there isn't a link for it in the admin dashboard or have I been totally blind and missed it?
I have the same problem. Tried numerous times of loading this up and the counters don't work. You can run dba/counts but it only works the one time, you have to keep running it to keep the counters updating.
Also when viewing categories the date or time is shown twice.
The above plugin gives the wrong url for dba/counts as it adds dashboard into the url and so does nothing.
Slightly disappointed with Vaniila as for low volume forum it would be ideal, simple and plain, but the counts need to work properly.
Same problem here... nothing has changed, this bug has been around for months across quite a few versions now.
Vanilla version: 3.1
PHP version: 7.3.8
SQL Server version: 5.7.27
Server Software: LiteSpeed
Same Problem here as well. Been pulling my hair out. Started instructing my users to use the Discussions view instead of Categories so they can know when there are new posts.
dba/counts fixes it for the moment, but as soon as a new post is made, the counts are wrong again. The "Most Recent:" post on each category is also wrong.
Vanilla version 3.1
PHP Version 7.2
SQL Sever version 5.6.44
I experience that aswell

@Rickeo @Kaspar @KyleJastrick @pinchies Is there a github issue for this anywhere? If not it would be a good idea to make one and post it. A lot of our devs don't follow bugs here very closely because our planning is organized by github issues.
I've definitely seen something similar to this before, but something on our issue tracker to organize would be helpful. Running
/dba/counts
is not an acceptable long term solution.I was thinking about this a couple of days ago but could not find the previous answer I got - as I have asked about this before.
The answer was something about getting the amount of db writes/access as low as possible.
I recall something about a config option to increase write amount.
Frankly, I did not get around to try it at that time.
At that time it seemed to go in it self(some updates may have coincided so I thought that that fixed it) but lately (since 3.x ??) it started to happen more often.
Long story sorry :-)
Short answer: I am not aware of a issue being raised via github.
It seems there is a high risk of experiencing counter issue after splitting/merging comments using "SplitMerge"
https://github.com/vanilla/vanilla/tree/master/plugins/SplitMerge
Could it be related to the update count section?

I see a commented out line
