Vanilla 2023.008 Open Source Release
AstRuc
New
2023.008 successfully built. Tested on php 7.4 and seems working php 8.1 (lot of warnings in log like previous releases). Permissions bugs with custom profile fields is gone 🤩
1) Go "/utility/update" to update database. Like previous releases "/utility/update" return sometime 'Something wrong...' but update status is ok in config.php. So check update status and date in config.php
2) You have to add "version.json" in root folder
3) If database error during upgrade (MariaDB / Cpanel...) removing ALGORITHM = INPLACE LOCK = NONE in: applications\vanilla\settings\structure.php & library\database\class.databasestructure.php
Please read previous OSS Custom builds threads for fixing various problems.
It's perfectly working on a php 7.4 install.

Hopefully we can keep using Vanilla OSS for some time, switching to another environment is going to be a PITA...

Thanks.
2023.008 works for me in my 8.2 development environment
Thanks!
How can I know what version I have installed?
when you're in the admin dashboard, in the right bottom
I second that.
Is there an article or can someone guide me on how to update the existing version of the forum?
I initially installed it using a one-click install application within my hosting provider account. I'm currently unable to locate an 'update' button within the forum interface. However, I do have FTP access and can manage the files manually. I would appreciate some guidance on this update process, as the forum is currently live, and I want to ensure a smooth update without causing any disruptions.
Thank you.
you have to build your installation files with the github reprository of vanilla. It's a technical task and not easy for non technical peoples . Maybe @AstRuc could made a new build...
Nice
I'm a bit stumped here. I'm trying to install this fresh and set it up on my hosting account which is running MySQL 5.7 and PHP 8.2. I've extracted the package contents into https://forum.mydomain.com/ and when I vist that url, I get redirected to https://forum.mydomain.com/dashboard/setup and that page then gives a 404
Sorry, this page doesn't exist.
Please check the URL or go back a page.
404 Error. Page Not Found.
So I can't even initiate setup? What am I doing wrong?
Can you explain how to do it, please?
I had the same issue, it was solved by configuring the .htaccess file properly.
I am trying to upgrade from: Version 3.0.1 to Vanilla 2023.008 Open Source Release.
I have downloaded the zip file built-vanilla-2023.008.zip, unzipped it and uploaded the files to my server.
But then I have to update the database and it says on this page:
1) Go "/utility/update" to update database.
But there is no "/utility/update" on my server and not in the file: built-vanilla-2023.008.zip
@rayongper that's a url, you have to type in the browser, for instance, https://yourforum.com/utility/update
