Anyone Flock?

I just downloaded the Flock browser, and it's actually really nice. Anyone else tried it? Thoughts? http://flock.com

    I tried it a while ago, and to me it just seemed like firefox with a few extra buttons and a crap default theme. Then again, that was a good while ago (it was like the very first beta preview release or something) and I'm the type of person who's more interested in the rendering engine than the UI... Well now that I look at it again, it dosn't appear too bad... I'm still sticking to Opera, though.

    That Shirra browser is just another front end for Web Kit.

    So? Holding that against it is like saying Firefox is just another gecko frontend. Personally, I'm looking for a Web Kit browser than works well in Gnome.

    I'm not holding anything against it, it might be a much better front end than Safari, I'd just be a lot more interested in it if they actually made their own rendering engine. (yeah, don't ask, I'm sort of obsessed with where programming meets the web)

    Flock is quite nice and I like the flickr and del.icio.us intergration. I'm in the process of sorting out my bookmarks to be on delicious and magnolia and not use the bookmarks in the browser.

    I must sound annoying with my 'but that's just a front-end for so and so', but that browzar is only an IE/Trident shell. I mean, if you're going to go through the trouble of downloading a new browser, you might as well do yourself a favor and get one which is more standards compliant.

    Flock looks like it might be a nice addition to my toolset. Picked it up sometime last week, and it's working well so far. I'm making use of the RSS reader - RSS in Safari seemed to slow it down for me, and I was using Shrook for a while, but every now and again there'd be a link I'd follow that would open a new page in Safari... feels cleaner if it all stays in the same app... I like the potential of the blog posting. I've got it linked to my Flickr account, though I'm having troubles getting it to connect with my blogger beta account... I think I'll be using it alongside Safari quite a bit. By comparison, many of the other browsers haven't really stuck with me - never put Firefox on my mac (Firefoxophiles - don't hate me ;), Camino hasn't been rolled out of my apps folder for a hella long time, Shiira got started only once or twice... etc, etc...

    flock for me really is more promise then anything else. its on a great path but hindered a bit by lock in to specific services which is bound to change over time (and has as time has gone on). things like no support for my bookmark service of choice (though ma.gnolia just launched a delicious compatable API), no RPC support in my blogging tool of choice, or just incompatible habits (either having lots of private bookmarks for dev stuff or using NNW as my news reader or whatever). I can totally see myself using it in a year or 2, but not at the moment.

    Camino with some bookmarklets + bookmark keywords to serves me well enough until that day comes.

    Shiira 2.0b has a great UI as well as some cool new featues to be added. So it is a bit more than just a frontend for webkit.

    It's a shame that Flock is a seperate install to Firefox. Is there any way of making it run from the same profile?

    Like SirNot, I tried Flock in that first public beta period. And come to pretty much the same conclusion. Firefox with an ugly theme and some extra buttons. And I have to say it still looks pretty much that way to me (although I have to admit I haven't used it very much). Seems like you ought to be able to achieve pretty much the same through Firefox extensions...

    While on the topic of browsers, someone's developing a Windows browser called Swift, using the WebKit engine. It's far from finished though.

    I have flocked, but it just seemed a bit bulky to me. I'm back to Firefox now, all though - the speed of Firefox, as far as getting it to start, causes me the same frustration I always had with Microsoft Word. I have a fast computer. I don't see why it takes so long to open up Firefox.

    I am downloading Swift now to see what its like. I always liked Safari when I had a mac. All though, I know Safari had a problem with the attachments extension. So, hopefully, Swift won't have that same issue.

    oh, i've also used Opera. i do like Opera, all though I think I was having similar problems with a few things with it that I had with Safari. its either you have to deal with long load times, or you have to deal with not being able to do everything you want to.

    Safari is still the most stable high performance browser on the planet, it will always be my main browser, but sometimes using firefox for its developer extension comes in handy too, I'd like to see Shirra become the Firefox of Safari making it customizable, if you use webkit in place of Safari it has some nice tweaks to it which may make FF not necessary

    I would use opeera but i feel the whole widgets, bittorrent, voice, and some other features are totally unnecessary in a browser. There also isn't a good Aqua skin for it.
