Re: Is it bad practice to instantiate media model in an event handler
@R_J I see. I will work towards correcting the things you pointed out. As someone looking to learn to code beter, you actually provided me with the guidance I was looking for. I really appreciate your detailed explanation. Thanks also for directing me to the coding standards. I have an additional question if u could help.… -
Re: How to create custom Smarty functions
I haven't found a way to show the users avatar alone, so I've created that function: <?php defined('APPLICATION') or die();/** * Encapsulates UserPhoto function. * * Returns the users avatar. * Valid params are "userid" to manually choose a user and "wrap" to * specify a tag that the output should be surrounded with. * *… -
Re: Lincoln goes to Montreal: A glimpse inside Vanilla Forums, Inc
We have some really solid collaboration goals already: * A successful 2.3 release cycle with Editor * The addons directory gets a 2.0 version * Improving our feedback & patch cycle together We also have plans to do things like refactor Tagging & Reactions into core features in the near-term, and other revamp goals. For… -
Re: Did not work for me - 2.0.18.8
Hi, I'm using the default theme, nothing fancy just added a persistent scrolling header menu, and a collapsible toggle DIV from dynamicdrive.com. The rest is pure CSS. Everything worked until I installed the plugin then when I disabled it everything went to normal. I have the following plugins enabled. Emoji - Facebook -… -
Re: share your forums with Vanilla
Neat idea. 😀 Scifi-Meshes is a pretty cool science fiction 3d art forum. Used to run on vBulletin, but we did a whole big server/software migration 2 years ago. Vanilla 3.3 self hosted on a VPS. Advanced Editor and BBCode for life 😋 As far as customization, there's a few things: Custom theme (well, 7 themes technically: 3… -
Re: Enhancements and Feedback
The form tags are missing, though ;-) Again, browse through class.form.php and see if you find what you need. Maybe you already found that when looking for examples in Vanilla. It would be as easy as echo $form->open(); and $form->close();. While you can use $form->close('Vote/View');, I prefer making it more explicit by… -
Vanilla Awards for best Community developed plugin, theme and application.
We should have a Vanilla Awards for best Community developed plugin, theme and application. perhaps Awards for the first Annual Vanilla add-ons - 2014. maybe if there are enough votes and people aren't apathetic. we could have a little badge on the plugin description or a meta tag with Award. or it could include staff… -
Onward to 2.1b3
I'd like to release beta 3 at the end of the month. The issues I'd like fixed for 2.1: https://github.com/vanillaforums/Garden/issues?milestone=4&page=1&state=open The "Almost Done" tag indicates issues that are fixed in the 2.1 branch but not merged back into master, I believe. So, for the purposes of this discussion,… -
Re: Getting emails from random people.
AGPL is by far and way the dumbest Licence around. if you want to use it fine, but make sure you absolutely need it. If vanilla used they would have to distribute all the cloud site code, completely invalidating their funding model. Not least they would require all the sites that use their code to distribute their code.… -
Re: More changes in Vanilla 2.8 (coming Feb 6) [update: delayed]
Yikes. I don't see how a format like that is necessary. I wrote a few WYSIWYG editors and actually just used BBcode to store the data so that it was portable. Even used the IMG tag.. Another WYSIWYG editor i cooked up just used CKEditor and the storage format was just just HTML. There was no ability to embed HTML in the…
