For me it means being able to upload an attachment and have a little button saying "place inline" like on phpBB and VB. It's an absolute must feature for any kind of art forum.
And it's the only thing that is holding me back from migrating to Vanilla 2.
You guys have all mentioned 'attachments' (file uploading) and that will be coming within a few days of Vanilla 2's official launch.
For now, I would like you guys to give me more in depth descriptions of what these plugin requests actually mean to you. If you care about them, explain what you want.
Vanilla 2 (since RC2) uses 'Authenticators'. If you create a new authenticator, and do it properly, you can replace the current one (password) with your new one by changing Garden.Authenticator.DefaultScheme
Either way, we're working towards a fully feature OAuth plugin with Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Wordpress compatibility. Its coming, albeit slowly,
Well Discussion overview for me was a nice way to make the front page seem a bit more cleaner - as I have just 2 categories so it was a nice way to "sort" content from each other - e.g 6 latest discussions from one category and 6 latest discussion from the other category.
However, playing around with a test vanilla 2, I think one big list could work if I assigned a different colour to each of the category tags.
It's a simple "put where you want chunks of text/code/whatever" based on roles & pages.
Example: I don't want my registered members to see ads so, I create a nugget, include some ads in it and define it to only display to non registered visitors. Furthermore I can select where I want it to display, in which pages and in which position (discussion page only, search page, account page, above fold, on the left column, footer, etc.). Another example: I give a role to newbies and only they can see a "Beginner Guide" link in a prominent position. With Nuggets for Vanilla 1 I even can if I want, cook a specific nugget for a specific discussion! Imagine that one of my discussions is a #1 result for a Google Search. I can put a nugget at the top of that discussion with more resources to my visitors or a simple disclaimer.
The uses are endless. I have 21 nuggets active in my main forum.
I see what you mean... As I am sure you know, fundamentally, Nuggets give a quick and simple way to inject a variety of types of code into the forum. I primarily use it for ads, but also for google analytics code and for buttons directing users to other parts of the wider site. I like the "nuggets" concept and find it achieves both functionality and ease of use. It's also handy that you can "cook" (activate) and uncook (suspend) nuggets. It's probably the most "Vanilla" of all extensions, seeing as it is clean, modular and thoroughly flexible. A more Vanilla 2 version of this extension, by the author or otherwise, I feel would be a great compliment to the new software.
a plugin or theme to pull the header and footer from a Wordpress theme. One step closer to adding Vanilla to an existing Wordpress site for those of us who suck at writing code
I would love a working/easy markitup editor for BBCode, and a way for us to give badges/recognize users for contributions--maybe even a point/karma system. These would be awesome.
Please consider the following plugins as they could revolutionize the whole vanilla forum script:
1) Top Posters: A sidebar plugin showing the top 5, 10 or whatever posters and the number of posts for each. 2) Email users: An admin plugin allowing the forum admin to email all users. 3) Contact us: A contact us form for members or visitors to contact the forum admin via email without having to register or login. 4) Discussion Thumbnail: A thumbnail image to appear on the left side of each discussion title on the forum frontpage. Admin and users should be given the option to upload their own thumbnail image, and if they don't a standard thumbnail appears. 5) Poll: A sidebar poll would surely make a difference.
I'd like a plugin that allow an admin to give badges to the users.
For example, I'd like to run a competition on my community, maybe developing a small application or widget, I'd like to give a badge to the winner and show the badge in every post of the user and in the profile page of the user.
What do you think about this? is it complicated? I'm new at vanilla forums but if someone orient me on how to do this I can do it.

Thank you for a wonderful script!
these are definitely cool plugins.
I was able to do item 4) but I manually edited something on the views page, which i know is not good practice. check => www.pinoyau.info
Im trying to work on the item 1) top posters during my free time.

Also missing an Upload feature for users (guess that was attachements for Vanilla 1).

These Nuggets sounds awesome. I'll think about how we could do it.

You've done a good job.
