  • The five most recent add-ons are of course displayed on that page, but when you search for add-ons, you can sort them by date, if you want some way to see recently added add-ons!
  • If you could click the tags to list other extensions with the same tag, that would be neat-o

Something that would be nice is any add-on that isn't compatible with the latest version of Vanilla gets grayed out. The Dirt theme is a good example of this, it's recieved a lot of downloads (667 to be precise), but you do have to wonder just how many of those are people downloading it to use with their recent Vanilla install and are ending up dissapointed.

These are all good ideas. The site was seriously beta when I put it up and I'd like to make a bunch of changes to it in the future. Keep your ideas coming ...

One idea I had was to add an AddOnID to the Vanilla discussions table and create a new discussion related to every add-on. Then you can add comments to the add-on pages that will also bump a discussion in the community forum.
  • I think that's a great idea Mark. It would help to keep alot of discussion regarding the add-ons somewhat organized.
  • Being able to sort search results by "Most Recently Updated" would be helpful.

Yep, nice idea. But if you're adding AddOnID to the discussion table it would somewhat mess up Vanilla unless it's for your board only ofcourse :) BTW.. Offtopic for a sec. Can someone visit my site: http://www.jazzman.nl/forum (I'm working on ShortStat extension and need some visitors to track :P)
  • Thank you :) Got some data now :)

Challenge you to spot my IP....

Another suggestion - a "featured" extension on the addons page, chosen randomly each time, with a preview image and it's description etc...

Is what I get when I visit it.

haha - no, it wouldn't be in the core. It would be an extension of Vanilla that integrates with the addon application. they both use the framework, so I just use extensions in each application to integrate them back and forth. that's how I got the "addons by this user" on our account pages (take a look at all of mine!).

Linking the add-ons to discussions would be absolutely fantastic, I for one would greatly welcome that, there are three main benefits that I can see:

    1) Should stop people creating numeous threads about a particular add-on.
    2) Could help bring certain add-ons more into the limelight so to speak, for example there are some great extensions that seem to of gone mostly unnoticed.
    3) It'll make sure each add-on is treated fairly and has it's own discussion, for example I want to discuss a certain style just put up onto the board, but don't really think my comments justify a new thread.
  • I've been doing that already, using the Extension URL field to point to a discussion thread.
  • What about something like a "shopping cart", where you can put all your extensions in, you want do download and when you've finsihed putting all your extensions in your cart you can easily download 1! zip or rar file that you need to extract and in this file are all extensions already unzipped...
  • I would suggest a popularity that is based on downloads per unit of time.

I.E. a newly added add-on may be very popular but doesn't appear so because of the low number of downloads.
  • definitely would like to see addon comments within the addon page.
also some html allowed in the description field. (which also need stripslashes btw)

I'd like to redo the whole thing, personally. I just threw it together so fast - now I have better ideas for how to do things...

I hope you'll implement those two ideas - thread related to an addon, and "most recently updated". I, for example, have made a significant update to the Serbian language file but someone who has downloaded the file before wouldn't notice it. Maybe even a "notify me if addon is updated" checkbox would be nice.. or maybe I'm far-fetching.
  • how about adding a link to a discussion about a particular extension if it exist, SMF does this I think that way when you go to the add extension page and see something you like, you can also find the discussion for it,
