There's a decent chance we'll want something like this in core. Really great.
The very old "Old Posts" plugin served a similar functionality, although with a different behaviour.
Poor thing has been neglected for years and it was in a bit of disrepair state. After updating it and upgrading it with some extra functionality, I have uploaded as the new "Old Discussion" plugin, since the original author is long gone.
