Does it really make sense to hide everything behind a RegWall?

Hi Vanilla's,

With almost every mail i get from from the Vanilla SaaS-team i need to register myself again and again to look at the "Benefiting Insights". I don't look at 95% of the probably good content offered there. I also got a Skype call recently from very poor people on the sales team that didn't even check my activity on the .org, nor did she know anything about a community managers needs. As "community growth specialists" i guess it's fairly easy to see that this can't work at all.

So my two cents is, i guess that most of the people are annoyed by the registration walls so why not just drop it and see growth happening. ;)

  • This is clearly a technique to drive sale leads. They need your information to market to you.

They should probably cross-reference with the OS forum if you select Vanilla Open Source as your current forum solution.

@phreak The marketing team has metrics they need to meet each month to qualify leads to pass along to the sales team. As @hgtonight says, that's definitely why that information is being put out there, and why the creation of it is being funded by the company. Meanwhile, the dev teams continues to write better documentation and tools for the benefit of our open source community. Both can happen at the same time. :)

@hgtonight and @Linc: Sure i understand how the sales funnel works (besides forums i run applyzer.com so there is a lot of conversion thinking going on in my mind.). But my feedback is, that this seems to me heavily "over-funneled" and i think it kills almost every pre-lead. I'm suggesting using a different approach and guess many people will jump of these form page. There is smarter methods in 2016 or?

Their numbers are going up every month so I am inclined to go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and tend to my own problems like trying to actually get 2.3 out the door. :)

Ok, you are right. I'll do the same. Sorry for the inconvenience. My anger came out of being mailed and walled and mailed and walled and... maybe the sales passes by here.
