So this is the forum software used for starcitizen?

How much custom work did there webteam do? because Vanilla 2.1.6 looks nothing like the forum at https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com just in boardstyle/postreply etc

Anyone know what sort of addons might have been used?

Just looks like a nice theme. My guess is Signatures, some polls, and maybe PostCount addons were used.

  • that theme is kinda ugly.. but it does look like nearest thing... .

I'm really looking for a the theme that just makes vanillaforum look like a classic forum... ie for threadview with columns for "Thread Title |
    Started By |
    Replies |
    Views |
    Most Recent "

not like each discussion has duplicated text like Views, Commets for each row etc. Just a solid base theme to start with, and a thread view where the posters avatar etc is to the left side of the post, not directly above it.. just like a classic forum theme?

    does such a thing exist?

"Just looks like a nice theme. ".. it does.. its why I tried out vanilla.. but i'm kinda shocked vanilla has nothing even remotely close to that layout and theme to get newbies started off with, I don't mind vanilla own style forum style, it just doesn't work for me and the site I'm wanting to port which more like old style forum layout, i'm more inclined to try another more modern forum like xenforo even though vanilla does have some of the features I was interested in.

problem I think is you don't know how to use the dashboard to use the layouts.

you could make a theme yourself, or hire someone. then we can tell you if we think your theme is ugly or not.

you could always ask the folks at starcitizen who designed the theme, and pay them to design one for you.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

In the Dashboard, go to Homepage and select the Table views.

  • yeh I'm new to vanilla so only briefly looked through the dashboard, I will try out table views

    Welcome to the community @Xeonz‌!

I do believe they have some custom plugins running that let the game hook into the forums and vice versa.

Vanilla is designed to be vanilla out of the box. I suggest you take a look through the entire dashboard and see if you find what you are looking for. :)

Yes thanks, that must be why hundreds of people downloaded it and no one has complained.

  • well the import from smf2 worked and table views makes it look more familiar, still is bunch of stuff I'm wanting to change but can't find how...

To get the poster profile (avatar, post date etc) to the left side of there reply? in some other forums there is thread view option, where users can set that to be above the post or the side...

Also the leave comment quick reply in a vanilla install.. doesn't have any of the bbcode, wysiwyg type stuff on by default.. is that needed via addon? I can't find where to enable it.

"you could always ask the folks at starcitizen who designed the theme, and pay them to design one for you."

heh doubtful... www.turbulent.ca did the website, and they still work on it.

Not that huge of fan of there frontpage or the comment system they use for newsposts, but it seems tied in with the same forum db, so I'm wondering if that is addon here or is it something else?

What is the best addon for like a portal system? or blog, where I can post topics that go into a forum category like announcements, and the threads in that go on the frontpage, and anyone posting replies have there comments goto that topic? Like for SMF I use simpleportal plugin, and that works nicely has stuff like custom blocks where you can add your own php code. Is there anything like that for vanilla?

    glad we could help.

now it is time for you to spend a few days answering your own questions, by reading the documentation, perusing the add-ons, experimenting, and making changes via the dashboard, and searching the forum.

Frequently people come here, install vanilla, test for 3 minutes, and then ask a barrage of questions, that can be answered by the person themselves if they spend a bit of time doing some research.

Many questions are already answered, there is Documentation, there is a FAQ, there are tutorials, and there is a wiki.

and a few other helpful links:

well you haven't actually helped at all actually. Others have, and not single link you provided there is even helpful to me. I bring up the question to find out there are preferred ones on. I did check addons, alot seem outdated and abandoned, ie like cms one.

Obviously if you expect everyone to go finding answers and they find none they just go elsewhere.

And I will assume that this...

To get the poster profile (avatar, post date etc) to the left side of there reply? in some other forums there is thread view option, where users can set that to be above the post or the side...

is not possible without file modifications or it would have been made a lot easier to change via a forum option.

Well they don't seem to have replied to say what a great looking theme it is either.. go figure. I wouldn't take no feedback as good feedback ever.

if you are capable of searching you would have found indexphotos plugin. but in your instant gratification mode, I tire of you, but welcome to the community anyway.

you seemed to have failed to read the links...
