I'd fucking hope they had glossy (otherwise known as bright (trubrite, xbrite, xblack etc)) lcd's. Theyre much higher contrast than old style lcd's. Not putting them on machines of that spec would be about as sensible as making them black and white (the displays, that is)
If you have ever used a glossy screen you realize its all about looking good on the store shelf and not at all good for real use. The glare on the things is awful. Only good thing about them is watching a DVD in a dark room - other than that they are a real hindrance to usability.

Matte screens don't eliminate glare, though, they just spread it out over the entire screen, making your LCD look washed out. Glossy screens concentrate glare in small locations, which makes the screen contrast ratio look better.
Obviously, all backlit screens look better in total darkness, what's at issue is how they perform in light. Having used both, I much prefer glossy screens.
I'll second that. This laptop has a 'trubrite' screen (think thats the manf's name for it - means the same thing really) and when comparing it to some of my mates laptops with old style matte screens there's no way i'd go back.
"If you guys wanted to get together and buy me a macbook, I'd be fine with it."
Wouldn't be so hard? I'll put in the first £10! Hmmm ok still need another 99 people or so...
I'd chuck a tenner in. When i get paid (friday). We'd need £10 from like 80 people though.
We were having a collection at school for a friend today. He got his mobile phone bill through this morning. £935. For a month. Quite funny really. He's disputing it though.
The donations page is still up, yes:

Hmmm. I don't know if I want the black one or the white one... Decisions decisions :)
If you guys seriously pull this together, I will be overwhelmingly grateful. I might even put up a funny picture of myself - you pick the pose/outfit.
Well, I'm not an avid Mac fan. So I haven't heard nearly half of what they offer. I just thought that was hysterical. I guess i got to hand it to them though; its more creative than prefixing everything with Microsoft. i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Network (MSN), etc.

And it's less of a contrast issue than it is a glare issue
