Notification clearing?

Most times I visit, I see a discussion I'm involved in has been replied to, so I open it. Then when I'm done, I see the little number next to my name, and need 3 clicks (Lincoln -> Notifications tab ->back home) to clear it even though I know exactly what it is and just want it gone.

I dunno if this is better as an addon or in the base but I just thought I'd bring it up since I think of it every day now.

It has been bothering me the past week too. Notifications should be removed upon reading the discussion it's associated with, not just viewing the notifications page.

Hmm. The notifications are generic, and have no understanding of what they're notifying you about. So, making Vanilla know to "unmark" a notification is going to be a tough one. I see what you mean, though. It is a little weird.

Does anyone still care about this issue? I agree; I feel like I wish it were easier to clear notifications.

Notifications appear in a popup since 2.1. Once you open the popup, they are marked read.

That is untrue AFAIK. If I come here and view a discussion before I click the link in the notification pop-up, the notification isn't cleared.

If I click on any notification link, all current notifications are cleared.

Yes, visiting the thread doesn't change the notification count.

Only viewing profile/notifications or opening the popup clears them:

This is different for private messages.
