Since most (all?) of this discussion is confined to theme modifications, I see nothing wrong with releasing Vanilla 1.0 now and Awesome Semantic Theme 1.0 later.
The main reason to wait is that the 1.0 version will be dugg and kottked (maybe slashdotted too), and that may very well be the only exposure lots of people have to the program.
Anything you don't want them to see, fix.
After it's released, and the huge amount of exposure brings new themes and extensions, it'd be rather annoying if they have to be done all over again when we change to version 1.0.0.1 or something.
Yeah. I've just finished the top part and now I'm working on the left side menu. After that, straight to the topic list.

NOTE: That is the version I am working on, it will look odd at times due to me leaving for a few minutes with uncompleted CSS.
So you've only done the index page, and you haven't even completed that?
There's a whole lot more to the forum than just the index page...
And isn't using words like "left" or "right" as id names a bad thing? For example, you've labelled the panel as "leftmenu" - What if, through css, someone changed it so that the panel appeared on the right? Then leftmenu is obviously a misnomer.

I'm considering just cleaning up the rest of the bugs and releasing 1.0.
